The League of Nations (1920 – 1946) was the first intergovernmental organization, established after World War 1, to promote international cooperation and to achieve international peace and security. The League, after twenty six (26) years of failing to end the wars around the world leading up to World War II, ranging from the Italian invasion of Abyssinia, the Spanish Civil War and the Second-Sino-Japanese War, was viewed incapable. The reason for the failure is in general, stated as being the weaknesses within the organization such as, voting structure that made ratifying resolutions difficult and incomplete representation among world nations. The refusal of the USA to join the organization also contributed to limiting the power of the League.

The “United Nations” Organization officially was founded in 1945 (75 Years and Counting) for the purposes of replacing the “League of Nations” by establishing new ideas to stop the wars around the world. The organization produced the Charter outlining four main principles as the purpose to accomplish, as following: i) Maintain international peace and security; ii) Develop friendly relations among nations; iii) Achieve international cooperation in solving international problems; and iv) Be a center for harmonizing the actions of nations in the attainment of these common ends.

In the more than two decades of research preceding the SOWPEACE project, the founding effort has focused on discovering the right approach to transforming the global society culture from a society of the-individual / individualism, into the society of citizens yielding to the shared humanity connected to world one peace. Overarching outcome targeted becomes a society of world peace. Both the causality and drivers of the tainted culture, has been carefully examined and the blueprint to guide the pursuit of solutions to the innumerable problems associated, has been produced. Unarguably, part of the role this culture has played while rippling out across all spectrum of the society are among the major factors responsible for the missed opportunity in the failed missions of both the “League of Nations” and the “United Nations” organizations. The predominant negative influence of the culture of individualism, as are in continuum includes:

• Encouraging the militarization of each of the global nations. This historically, has prevented the systems in both previous and current political, intergovernmental organizations, from building world peace because member nations are armed ready to go to war regularly with each other on all disputes and disagreements, so much so, disarmament becomes impossible.
• Encouraging the splitting of global nations into regional alliances which predates the World War I. This historically, has prevented the systems in both previous and current political, intergovernmental organizations from building world peace. Member nations are caught up in identifying with regional allies while waging hostile competition to outwit others economically and militarily in allied forces cooperation, so much so, disarmament becomes impossible.
• Encouraging that special recognition be given any of the global nations which rises in the great power competition. This historically has prevented the systems in both the previous and current political, intergovernmental organizations from building world peace or aiming to play a meaningful role, as: i) a center for harmonizing the actions of nations toward attainment of friendly relations across all nations, ii) achieve international cooperation in solving international problems, iii) achieve security as well, maintaining world peace.
• Encouraging marginalization on the global level organization’s voting structures even though, the votes go a long way in directing important decisions affecting the life of all humans. This historically has prevented the U.N. systems as a political, intergovernmental organization, from building world peace because; the voting structure is protested as unacceptable to a majority of the global citizens.

Responding to these listed and many more, the SOWPEACE project, saw the need to develop the non political, non religious, independent organization, by which to pursue international conciliatory engagements, on the global levels to primarily accomplish: i) all global citizens concerted effort as world peace stakeholder ii) Programs implementation to restore success in the areas where the “United Nations” and “League of Nations” have been unsuccessful and. iii) Programs implementation to pursue the new global society total transformation, into the society of world peace.
